Course Description:
Generally offered first semester. This advanced course gives students a solid basis to move on to more advanced courses. The challenging course surveys all key areas, including atomic structure, chemical bonding and reactions, solutions, stoichiometry, thermochemistry, organic chemistry, and nuclear chemistry, enhanced with challenging model problems and assessments. Students complete community-based written research projects, treat aspects of chemistry that require individual research and reporting, and participate in online threaded discussions. Instructions for hands-on labs are included. K12 lab kits contain all lab materials that cannot easily be found in the home.

Success in previous science course and a teacher/counselor recommendation

  • Synchronous time with the class, a group or the virtual education teacher recorded by the learning management system or teacher.
  • When this course is taken by a student in a school with a district-assigned learning coach, seat time attendance may be used to document participation.
  • The virtual education teacher verifies participation in the course 1-3 times a week.
